my mother is italian and was also born in tripoli africa. i am looking for any way of tracing this my grandfather and grandmother moved back to rome italy when they could no longer stay there. my mother had married my father in 57 and moved to the states cause he was american. if you find out any info please respond to this. thanks sindy ackley

Earlier, I was researching my great-great grandfather, Sebastiano Scalone when I found his draft card from 1942 +/- one year. It said that he was born in "Trapoli, Italy" rather than what I thought was "Trapani, Italy." I believe Trapoli roughly corresponds to Tripoli and Libya was part of the Italian Empire at the time of his writing.

Is there any way for me to find recorded documents about his family if they truly were from Libya?

Finding out Family Data in Third World Countries

How does anyone go about looking up people from another country? I know places and aprox ages any suggestions?

Looks like no one ever responded to your inquiry and I happend upon it today. You might try the embassy for the country of which they origionated. Like the USA many countries had embassies there over the years. How well they would have kept any documentation it unknown. If they were military it would be easier to contact that branch for any info or see where the base was located. Good luck.

Hey,
i'm kinda knew at all this re-tracing family history so i hope someone can help.
if i knew that certain members of the family stayed in libya for a generation- how would i go about obtaining documents. As if, any birth certificates or travel documents? things like that
