Hi

Can anybody tell me how you go about trying to find a death certificate of a British subject who died in this country just before WW1.
Was Ghana formally known as the Gold Coast?

Regards Roger Cook

Roger,

Are you still searching for a certificate? I am in possession of an original death certificate for my G-Grandfather. The certificate was sent back to UK with his possessions after his death in Ghana (formerly Gold Coast) in 1921.

The certificate is entered in the "Register of Deaths and Burials", and is signed by both the "Registrar of Deaths of the Gold Coast Colony and its Dependencies" and the Governor of the Gold Coast Colony. It is all written in English and includes comprehensive details concerning the deceased (except his exact age!)...

I have had a lengthy correspondence with the Anglican Diocese for the district in which my relative was buried (as indicated on the certificate), but am no further along in my search for extra information.

Hi Jane.

Yes Iam still trying to find a death cert. for one of my ancestors, William Cook.
According to family lore he was a bridge builder and died somewhere on the Gold coast c. 1910-1914 + - a few years.
We think his home address at the time was Pakefield near Lowestoft suffolk.

I had tried on several occaisions asking for help from the consulate in London but that just drew blanks.

Could you point me in the right direction as to which way to go know?

This website provides GRO entries for British subject events overseas. Near the bottom of the page you can read the event categories together with dates.

In that Gold Coast (Ghana) was a colony until 1957, the records of British subjects must be recorded and available somewhere in UK.

Hi
Can you tell me if you ever had any luck obtaining a death certificate.
I have a relative who emigrated to the Gold Coast and I believe died in the 1930's. I am keen to discover more about him, as he seems to be the black sheep of the family.
Thank you
Theresa

I am also trying to find some way of locating family members by the Surname of Luks! They moved from Wales to the Gold Coast then during the uprisings they went to Belgium but we can't seem to find any link to this family at all. Constantine Luks and Sydney Anne Parry Luks and their family had 5 children and some may have died in the Gold Coast area but I can't seem to find any links to Gold Coast Genealogy.

Can anyone help?????

Was in hopes that the Ancestry.com site would get some of these records at some point but haven't seen any yet!

We can keep hoping, especially when they have more and more info added each day.
