I'm researching an ancestor, John Hope Smith, who was Colonial Head of Ghana (Gold Coast) from 1817 to 1822. I am unable to find out where and when he died. His wife, Fanny, died at Cape Coast in 1842 and a gravestone was erected by one of her sons. Presumably her husband had already died, but despite his importance at the time, I cannot find any other details. Can anyone help, please?
