My name is Darrell. I have been entrusted with the RootsWeb message board for the "Second Site" software user community. I intend to administer with a light touch, but here are the rules and some useful information. My e-mail address is:

1. Messages that are of general interest will be posted to the matching mailing list, at my discretion. Please do not post the same message to both.

2. This is a NO VIRUS ALERT message board. Alerts concerning malicious programs, scams, and all such are forbidden, verboten, not now, not ever, nohow. If you have just discovered proof positive of the "End Of The Internet" virus -- tell ME, *off line*. There are NO EXCEPTIONS.

3. Discussions of board management of any kind, positive or negative, are welcome but must be handled by PRIVATE e-mail. This board is about "Second Site", not about the board itself. 3. There are some exceptions to my "light touch" approach. One is "Rootsweb's Common-Sense Acceptable Use Policy" at:

     http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/aup.html
4. Be polite. You may contradict any *idea* expressed on this list as vigorously as you like, if your language is cordial and non-personal and you are not disrupting the board as a whole. Except for that, all criticism of others or their messages should be sent to me. Offensive messages will be removed and the posting address blocked if possible.

5. The board is about John Cardinal's "Second Site" genealogy web site software, and is hosted by the largest and oldest genealogy site on the 'net. There is a reasonable expectation that messages will have some connection with "Second Site" and its use in furthering genealogy, history, and family doings. What that means is -- for the most part -- left up to you. It is up to me to deal with off topic or irrelevant material. If, after some time, the message remains on the list, I have deemed it harmless.

6. Newbies are my friends. A newbie I haven't met yet has an extraordinary idea about how to make "Second Site" more effective for everyone. Please don't insult or patronize my friends on this board.

7. I am, like most of us, an amateur genealogist. I use "The Master Genealogist" from Wholly Genes as my genealogy data maintenance software. I started using "Second Site" as a beta tester in March 2002. However, I have no formal personal connection with John Cardinal or Wholly Genes other than this: I like their software, and use it.
