This board is for the discussion of genealogy and research of
Andersonville Civil War Prison
located in Macon County, Georgia.

Andersonville Prison was in operation from February 1864 through May 1865, and had an estimated 45,000 Union soldiers pass through it's gates. Of these, almost 13,000 died from disease, poor sanitation, malnutrition, overcrowding, or exposure to the elements [Kevin Frye].
