1. Posts MUST mention the BOARD SURNAME and the ANCESTOR. The board is here to discuss genealogy and family history, please take personal everyday chit chat off the board.

2. Only SURNAMES (or variations) that are mentioned in the text of the post, go in the surname box. No given (first) names or localities. The correct format is: Smith, Smyth, Jones. That’s a comma AND space between surnames, no slashes.

3. This board is NOT a place to post a long stream of surnames.

4. Anyone seeking friends, family *living* must post to the LOST FAMILY & FRIENDS Board.- http://boards.ancestry.com/topics.lost-family-and-friends/mb.ashx

5. Do NOT post identifiable information about LIVING people without their direct CONSENT; this includes email addresses, snail mail addresses, phone #'s, full names, location, birth dates or years.- Any such messages posted on this board will be moved or deleted. Posting your own personal information is not advisable.

6. Anyone seeking ADOPTION information on adoptees, birth families, birth parents, etc. must post to the Adoption Board.- http://boards.ancestry.com/topics.adoption/mb.ashx

7. If you find an existing thread on your subject, check to see if it has been active, or if the poster is still active. You have a better chance of having your queries getting a response by initiating a new thread. Please don’t start new threads on the same subject, add new information to your existing thread.

8. Do NOT post in all CAPS, this is considered shouting and is poor "netiquette". Posting only the SURNAME(s) in caps is acceptable and advisable in the subject line and in the body of the message.

9. Do NOT post "new email address" messages. These messages will be deleted. Posting your mail address within your message may be picked up by spambots. To protect yourself from spam, put your email address in your profile and direct people to find your contact information by hitting your profile link.

11. Posting a THANK YOU, while nice and is appreciated, doesn't contain any genealogical information and will be deleted after a day or two.

12. Last but not least, to learn more about posting to the boards you can follow the COMMUNITY GUIDELINES and BOARD FAQ's found at the bottom of all message board pages.
