- Subject Lines:
- Please try to make sure that they reflect your post, many times people will simply scan the list of subjects and not bother to read unless the subject fits what they are looking for. For example, if you are looking for a George Ewer born 9 Aug 1781 in Virginia, what would be more helpful, "Looking for VA Ewers" or "George Ewer b 1781 Virginia" There is an awful lot of information out there; help people find yours.
- Surname Box:
- Only include those surnames that appear in your post. The search engines use that box to index your post. Think of how frustrated you would be if you found a match, went to the post and didn't see your name -anywhere-. Use a comma between the surnames.
- Be Specific:
- When writing a query, include as much information as you have. Separate what you know from what you believe or trying to confirm. Remember the more details you give, the greater the possibilty of a valid connection.
- For more information on posting queries, see the Ancestry Daily News' article, Posting an Effective Query.
