MAILING LIST INFORMATION
There is also a Rootsweb Mailing List for this Surname. It is suggested that you join
this list (free) where you can "meet" other Researchers who may have that one piece
of information you are seeking. To subscribe to the list, click
here and send the
message AS IS - do NOT change it in any way. You will receive a confirmatory e-mail,
to which you must reply to complete subscription.
Mailing List Tips & Techniques can be found at:
http://www.ianmarr.net.au/FAQ.html
It should be noted that any message posted here is "gatewayed" to the
ELFORD Mailing List on Rootsweb and will be stored in that list's archives. This simply
means that any posting made here, will also appear in the Mailing List. There is no
thread history when replies are posted to the List - so try to make them sensible
as a stand-alone message.
TIPS & GUIDELINES
Messages posted to this board should have some tangible connection to the
ELFORD surname.
Any other posts will be
deleted or
moved to another, appropriate Board.
DO NOT type your message in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. It is considered
shouting and is poor "netiquette"
Do not post information on
living people.
On the Surname line, type only the surnames that are contained in your message,
separated by a comma and space.
Do not type every surname that you're researching.
Listing other surnames could end up in making you "
invisible" to
other Researchers. That is, if they search on one of your listed surnames and
routinely come up with a message not related to that surname, they will soon
start to ignore your messages - thus you become
invisible to them.
This will NOT help your Research efforts.
Personal replies to a post, such as "
thank you", "
that's really interesting",
etc. should be sent direct to the poster rather than posted to the board.
Imagine your reply as a stand alone message - does it make sense and contain
real information at a genealogical level?
If not, then do not
post it. You may obtain the
e-mail address of a poster by either clicking on "
Author" or "
Print Message"
Keep your subject line interesting, including name(s), approximate date or time
period, and location. An informative subject line will much more quickly cause someone
to read your post than one that says "ELFORD Family", "Help", etc.
Last but not least, to find out more information about posting to the boards you can
follow the
Community Guidelines
and
Board FAQ
found at the bottom of all message board pages.
