As you know there are many members who post to the message boards that have chosen to use Ancestry’s connection service instead of allowing pubic access to their email address—as a board administrator, you now have access to contact these members through the connection service!
Why is having access to this function important? In most cases you will want to respond to the poster on the board so the community can benefit from your message, but if you need to contact the poster off-line, for example, to explain the rules to them privately, or to let them know that they have posted an inappropriate message, having access to the connection service will allow you to reach all of our members, registered and unregistered alike.
A little how-to:
You need to be signed in to the Admin Center for this function to be available and you will also need to be registered at Ancestry.com. (You can register as a guest at no cost.)
When you click on the author’s username you are brought to one of three pages:
1)A page that displays the member’s email address.
2)A page that lets you know the member has chosen to use Ancestry’s connection service and has a “Go to Ancestry Profile” button.
3)Or if you are signed in to Ancestry and the member has registered you are taken to their Public Profile.
In the member’s Ancestry Public Profile you can contact them by choosing the “Contact this person” link found in the Page Tools section. This link brings you to a “Create Message” page. Here you can compose your message, change the subject of the message and you have the option of sending a copy of the message to yourself.
Note: If the member has chosen to make their email public you will see a graphic with their email address if they have chosen to remain anonymous you will not be able to see their email address.
We are excited to offer this function to you and hope it allows you to better administer your message boards!
