ARP Wardens & activities

Hi,

Can anyone give me a guide to finding out about ARP (Air Raid Precaution) Wardens during WWII? I'm pretty sure my grandfather was in the ARP in Aston, Birmingham, but I have no information about when he joined, what he did how long he served etc.

Thanks for any help!!

For starters there's useful reading to be found in the Research Guides of The National Archives at:
www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/atoz/h.htm#

Click on 'Home Guard' on the left hand side.

Also worth contacting the local archives and local studies and maybe museums too in Birmingham area to see if they have documents and possibly even have photos that would add background information
per page
