I am writing a book about the slave population of Washington County, Georgia for genealogical purposes and I plan to have it published later this year. I am searching for photographs of former slaves from Washington County, Georgia. I seek permission from those who hold such photographs to allow them to be included in this upcoming volume. It appears that such photographs are very rare. I have been able to obtain eight photographs so far. The more photographs the better it is. The photographs should be appropriately identified by name and/or location. This volume contains detailed information about around 20,000+ named former slaves strongly connected to or within Washington County, Georgia dating back from the mid 1700’s through the end of the Civil War and the Reconstruction Period. The work contains more than 700 pages and each included item is documented by date and source of information. I hope that this volume includes every available source of information about slaves and former slaves that is published or unpublished and available to the public. I am also interested in obtaining family stories about former slaves from Washington County, Georgia. All material accepted for the publication will be appropriately acknowledged in the book. The book will be made available for sale at the Washington County Historical Society. The proceeds from the sale of the book will go toward furthering genealogical and historical research in Washington County, Georgia. Contact me, Adam L.
