I am trying to find out anything on my husband's ancestor, John New. He was born 14 September 1838 or 1839. According to his obit, he was born in Belgium and came to the United States when a young man. He settled in Clinton, Clinton County, Iowa on the Mississippi River. He was in our Civil War, was a devout Catholic, and died in Clinton 5 July 1913. According to his enlistment papers, he was 5 feet 7 inches tall, dark complexion, and hazel eyes.
