Charlotte HAMILTON m. James McKittrick ADAIR according to his letters in the Burns book. However, I am finding I have too many James McKittrick ADAIRS and was wondering if anyone has further information on them. Thankyou. #1 James Makittrick ADAIR b.1728, Inverness, d.1801 Ayr, buried Alloway, Carrick, Ayrshire, wife Ann BARTER (?) BARRELL (?) Was their son listed in - The alumni of Edinburgh - #2. Jac Makittrick ADAIR Scottus, Medicine 1789 James Makittrick ADAIR married Maria BARRELL (from Faculty Office Marriage Allegations dated 20 Jul 1791). His will is filed with the Bank of England (Bk 35 date 1801-3) where he is described as MD of Ayr, North Britain. Another source shows – Dr. James McKittrick ADAIR, 1765-1802, Studied at Geneva. Graduated at Edinburgh University. #3. Charlotte Hamilton b.1763 m.1789 James McKittrick Adair and she d.1806 Edinburgh. Charlotte Hamilton was step-sister of Gavin Hamilton of Mauchline who was landlord of Robbie Burns. (This James McKittrick Adair has been noted by some Burns recorders that he practiced in Pleasance, Edinburgh then in Harrogate (Yorkshire ?) ) They had 5 children. Was one of their children (a James McKittrick ADAIR) the husband of - # 4. ADAIR Barbara 4/9/1821 Mrs., alias McIlwraith, widow of James McKiltrick ADAIR, physician, residing in Newton upon Ayr Glasgow Sheriff Court Settlements.(Scottish wills) This seems to leave 1 too many ?
