Hi Marion,

sorry it's taken me a while to post this. According to federal postal service records, which we have on microfilm here in the South Carolina Room, the Dublin post office in Greenville County was established in 1856. It was located several miles west of Fountain Inn and served (at the time the proposal for a new P.O. was made, in 1856) twenty-two families. The proposal was made by A.C. Jackson. A different set of federal records, also held on microfilm here, shows that the first postmaster of Dublin P.O. was Alexander C. Jackson, beginning 5 August 1856. He was replaced on 31 Dec. 1859 by David R. Anderson, who apparently served until the office was discontinued in September of 1866.
I don't find any indication of why it was named Dublin, but it's quite clearly Dublin and not Durbin. The original settlers of the Fairview district (Pedens, Alexanders and others)were Irish, but that's kindof a stretch. Who knows???

If you have any questions about this or need anything else, don't hesitate to contact me. Best of luck with your research!

Sincerely,
Cori Dulmage
