OLIPHANT.†Charles Lister OLIPHANT was born November 22, 1886, the son of Thomas and Tima (BYERS) OLIPHANT. He departed this life July 14, 1950, at the age of 63 years. Charlie, or “Alec†as he was known to many people, was born and reared in Bloomfield, and spent his entire life in Greene County. He attended the Bloomfield schools where he was active in sports, and he maintained that interest throughout life. He was a great lover of baseball and basketball, always attended the game and showed much interest in every play, as most usually one or two of his boys were in the game. His interest in outdoor life and recreation brought him in close contact with nature. He loved the rod and reel and like Peter, James, and John, he often said, “I go fishing.†Alec was a devoted husband and father. He was very proud of his children and was like a big brother to his sons and daughters. They claimed him their “buddy†in all sports. Early in life he joined the Christian Church in Bloomfield. He was married on August 15, 1908, to Rosa Lou JACKSON. To this union were born six boys and two girls. He was preceded in death by two sons, Delmar Franklin, in 1929, and Orval Wesley, in 1947. A grandson, Marvin, also preceded him in death. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Rosa OLIPHANT; daughters, Mrs. Bernard HEATON, of Bloomfield, and Mrs. Bernard SAPPENFIELD, of Lyons; sons, Lawson, of Plainfield; Paul, at home. Marcus, at West Point, and Elmer, at home. The following brothers and sisters also survive: Leslie OLIPHANT, Bloomfield; Mrs. Homer FODDRILL, Bloomfield; Mrs. Dora OLIPHANT, Bloomington; Mrs. Grace HARRIS, of Bridgeport; Carl OLIPHANT, of Bloomfield, and Claude OLIPHANT, of Martinsville. Eight grandchildren also survive, and one aunt, Mrs. Nan WILSON, of Bloomfield. “Shall we gather at the river, Where bright angels’ feet have trod; With its crystal tide forever Flowing by the throne of God? On the bosom of the river, Where the Savior-King we own, We shall meet and sorrow never, ‘Neath the glory of the throne. On the margin of the river, Washing up its silver spray, We shall walk and worship ever, All the happy, golden day. Soon we’ll reach the shining river, Soon our pilgrimage will cease, Soon our happy hearts will quiver With the melody of peace. Yes, we’ll gather at the river, The beautiful, beautiful river, Gather with the Saints at the river That flows by the throne of God.†— We wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to all our friends and neighbors who have been so kind and thoughtful the past years, and after the passing of our husband, father and brother, Charles L. OLIPHANT. We especially thank those who sent flowers, the singers, pianist, flower bearers, pall bearers, doctors, Rev. LAYTON, and Jenkins I& Sons for their services. Mrs. Charles L.
