| Are you still looking for info on Louise Manitouak'kouche? If so I have some info. She was an Algonquin (First peoples or Sauvagesse) who was born between 1621 to 1629 in Trois Rivieres, Que. The birth date varies from census to census. I have her death from Drouin (16 Feb 1704 in Champlain) and it has her born 1624. Manitouak'kouche would refer to her father's name. Many were know by one name and it was the French and English would gave it as the second. Louise's husband, Pierre Artault de La Tour died in the summer of 1678 and she was made a widow by an act of Adhemar (the Nortary Antoine Adhemar) on 15 Dec 1678 in Champlain. When her husband died Antoine Desrosier and Michel Desrosier dit Desilets became care givers and looked after his estate. This is when Michel and Marie Thomasse Artault had a marriage contract, she was age 14 at the time. Widow Louise, son Jean and Marie are all seen living at Michel's house in the census. Most of this info I found at Bibliotheque et Archives...Nationales du Quebec...Pistard (the court records). This info is all document. I have found no reference as to how Pierre Artault La Tour died. I have only found one birth record for their daughter Jeanne and several court documents for their son Jean but then nothing after 1704. When Louise died Marie Thomasse Desrosiers dit Desilets was her only heir. This leads me to believe that her sister and brother had possibly died or returned to their Algonquin families. But this is only speculation as like I said I have found nothing since 1704. But I am still looking and hoping that they moved and all I need to do is find where and when. Hope this helps. | |
