| Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Since my mom was born in the US and then her dad went back to Poland, one has to wonder if he knew things would be getting hin ard with the War and that is why he sent her back to the U.S. The ship she came over on 1938 was sunk in 1939 as (Gydnia America Line) it had become a warship. My own daughter will be 21 on 7/7, the age my mom was when she came back to America leaving her family behind - it is mind boggling to think difficult it must have been. As far as we know, my grandfather did not pass away until sometime in the 1960's - so it is probably over 40 years ago - but he and my mom's stepmother did have several more children - we think about 7 or 8. They lived on a farm, as I'm sure a lot of people did back then - the address on her receipt for passage on the ship was "Mazory Poczta Hranizow, Pow. Kolbuszowej, and she did say she lived near Krakow - so I'm assuming this is the correct Ranizow. Thanks again - I have someone who I might be able to write a letter to the parish you received the address on - we'll see !! Happy searching ! | |
