Subject: How do I use the information in my ancestor's obituary?

I have an obituary for my ancestor Joseph John Alexander Laquey. It is full of information and clues to find out who his parents were and to move up the tree.

I am trying to figure out how to find more information about his parents and uncle. It gives locations for where they lived. What type of records should I look for that would have been taken in 1800-1815 time frame?

Would any of his military records show who his parents or guardians were? It states that he fought in the Florida War under General Trowser, but I haven't been able to locate a General Trowser. Also, I don't think that the timing makes sense for it to be the Florida War.

Could anyone give me some pointers or advice to use to check out these facts? I have attached his obituary.

Thanks in advance!

Jessica
