Dick Eastman has reviewed a number of genealogy database programs on his blog, but you'll have to dig around a bit using the search box to find them:

I still use PAF 5, though I also have Ancestral Quest, which allows you to use your PAF databases directly without having to change the data file format.

At the Family History Center where I volunteer, RootsMagic and Legacy are popular with some of the other volunteers.

Some of these other programs will read in and convert your PAF database directly, others will require you to export your PAF file to a gedcom, then import the gedcom to the new program. I've heard that transferring links to pictures, etc. can be a problem when switching programs.
