The ACOM on-line member tree program has far fewer functions than the FTMM (you're on the FTM (Mac) board) application. It's important to understand the two applications are different animals, with the ability to share "some", not all, data.

You can't "select" what to import, the entire ACOM tree will (and should) import to the FTMM application.

After importing the tree to the FTMM program, I recommend you:

1) Sign off of ACOM account from the FTMM program. This will disconnect the sync function, which I also recommend you set to manual.

The work you want to perform, splitting the tree, weeding, etc is what you can do with the tree in the FTMM program.

I highly suggest you spend time learning the functions of the FTMM program. There is a steep learning curve (read: time consumptive) at the beginning, but taking the time to learn the functions (and there are tutorials on-line it) will prevent frustration in the future and insure your data.

The best way to learn about functions is to have a small test tree. Build a 50 profile tree on ACOM, make it private and not-indexed. Then start messing around with importing to FTMM, and use the FTMM test tree copy to learn FTMM functions. You can learn how the sync function works with the test tree.
