I think it would be useful and helpful to have a thread/conversation where people can add any problems they are experiencing with FTM3Mac - the software itself (i.e. excluding problems in how it performs after being uploaded on Ancestry website), with information about whether they have reported the problem yet. This would make life easier for us users in that we could avoid duplicating of effort in dealing with reporting faults to Ancestry's first line support department.
(I am using the download version of FTM3Mac from I-Tunes/Apple Store, with its latest patch, on a Mac which was purchased as OS X Yosemite, with latest version of Yosemite with latest upgrade.)
I spent about 10 hours over the course of several weeks describing, discussing and detailing a problem to Ancestry support, including sending them gedcom files at their request, having to test them at their request, reporting back at their request. The issue was not resolved because Ancestry did not wish to report the reported problems to FTM3Mac development team until I followed their last arbitrary demand (which was to uninstall the program and consult with Avanquest, who ironically informed they only resell FTM3Mac CD version(s) ). At the moment I am not willing to go through the uninstallation process because of the further time I would have to spend on this, when I actually suspect it is probably not only me having the problem.
Whilst it is useful to hear work-arounds for some problems on the message boards, at the same time it would be just as useful to be able to see, in a dedicated list, which problems FTM3Mac users are experiencing (that have not been fixed by latest patches) and also whether they have already reported them to Ancestry support.
The problem I have experienced, which to me is a major flaw:
(I am using the download version, not the cd version from Avanquest).
I discovered after importing a gedcom with approximately 5,000 individuals that, with a pattern that I could not identify, "Person notes" for some of these individuals failed to appear in the software, i.e. the individuals' "Person Notes" fields were completely empty. So, the "Person Notes" are in some cases, skipped by the FTM3Mac software, from the import whilst the "Research Notes"/"Medical Notes" still successfully import. (I checked and all the relevant "Person notes" do exist in the original gedcom).
I also tested the same ged file with other Genealogy programmes for Mac and the Person Notes fields get imported successfully, so feel even more that this flaw is specific to FMT3 Mac.
