I was born and living in Oosterhout (Gelderland). There is also an Oosterhout (Noord-Brabant). My village Oosterhout (Gelderland, Betuwe) was called in the 18th century Osterholt. It means: the 'holt' in 'oosten'. in English"the forest in the east'. So, there is also a Westerhout (forest in the west). This village is from 975 or beyond.
The local historical society of Oosterhout, Slijk-Ewijk and Loenen published a book with the history of Oosterhout, some years ago, in Dutch.
The Oosterhout (Noord-Brabant) dates from 1277 official but is far older.
The question is: which Oosterhout do you mean?
