I am searching for the parents of Valentine Ponder. He was born in Caswell County, North Carolina, USA, in 1782-83. There was a Morgan Ponder who died in Caswell County, North Carolina, USA, in 1786. Morgan was born in Queen Anne's County, Maryland about 1720.
Morgan could be the grandfather of Valentine Ponder. Nothing is known about Morgan's children. He married Ann Wilson, the widow of Thomas Hinds, 14 Sep 1743. She was older than Morgan and had 5 or 6 children with Thomas Hinds.
There was a niece of Thomas Hinds that married someone named Valentine.
Morgan could be Valentine's father if Ann Wilson died and Morgan married a young woman, as Morgan died when Valentine was 3 or 4 years old.
Sometime when Valentine was a child, I believe he moved to Eastern Tennessee.
Valentine married Margaret Spencer, I believe in Rhea County, Tennessee.
They moved to South Carolina where their first 2 children were born.
They moved back to Roane County Tennessee where the rest of their children were born.
The tax records of 1818-1821 show that Valentine Ponder paid taxes there.
Valentine Ponder was a Justice of the Peace in Roane County. He resigned 4 Jan 1847.
Valentine served in the Capt. Stone Company.
Valentine also married 2 more times in Roane County.
Violet Adaline Elliott on 5 Feb 1849
9 Mar 1858
Valentine died in Roane County between 1867-1869
How can I find out who his parents were?
What type of records would have that information?
Any help will be appreciated.
