What I can tell you for certain is that the Native Creek burial custom was still being widely used during this time, a few still use it today. My Great-Great Grandmother didn’t pass until 1910 and I am nearly convinced she was buried in the old customary manner. The belief being we are from the Earth and will return to the Earth, it was customary to mark graves with only a small burial house built over the grave and it was only built once never to be rebuilt, when it rotted away one was said to have returned to the Creator.
