My grandfather was the baker at the Brookside Hotel in Loch Sheldrake in the mid-40s, I think. I would spend the summers up there. I remember the Protas' - and their two dogs, Brooksie and Killer (if I remember correctly - I was around 5 or 6). There was a head waiter whose last name I think was Sharp, with a son named Burton and a wife. In 1985 I was in the area and drove to where the hotel was. Nothing was there - it might have burned down, but the two stone pillars at the driveway were still standing. The sign was on the ground, and like a dope, I didn't take it. Sure do regret that.
