Daniel Bodkin, Jr., was born August 27, 1861, in Ballard County. He is a son of Daniel Bodkin, Sr., and Elizabeth J. (Bodkin) Bodkin. The father was born in Henry County, Ky. In 1856 he came to Ballard County and has since been extensively engaged in farming, stock-raising, milling and contracting, in which last capacity he furnished the lumber for the trestle work of the Illinois Central Railroad in this vicinity. He now owns over 3,000 acres of land and employs from ten to thirty hands, and is the most extensive farmer in Ballard County. Our subject assisted his father on the farm and in other pursuits until 1883, when he came to Bardwell, where he has since been engaged in the grocery and hardware business. He was married in 1881 to Mary Young, of Cleveland, Ohio.
